When M got in touch, he told me he was going to propose in front of a particular painting at The Wallace Collection. I assumed he'd booked a room. He'd booked the whole museum.
W thought she was coming to a special evening event. I waited in the small room beside the painting, watching M through the doorway and trying to work out when he was going to do it.
He proposed in front of the painting he'd chosen, and afterwards the museum had champagne waiting for them.
